Ben and I are not formal and we enjoy being with our friends and family in a very comfortable setting. Therefore, we have decided to go with a BBQ, good home cooking picnic. My family and I will do most of the food preparation.
The "Cake"
Neither one of us like cake, but we both LOVE fruit pies!
Ben originally wanted cherry pie but due to the crazy weather this year, there were not enough sour cherries to pick for 13 pies. So, Ben decided to go with a wild berry, the wine berry. It is similar to red raspberries but smaller and more flavorful. Ben picked about 9 pies worth of wine berries and we will supplement the rest of his berry pies with blackberries we picked from my aunt's property.
My favorite pie is apple pie. So come time to make and bake all the pies before the wedding we will purchase them from a local grocery store since apples are difficult to keep for about 9 mos.
I like to think of myself a good baker so I don't think of this task as daunting. I have recently found a great pie crust recipe and am so excited to get this project done!
Since we will have bride and groom flavors of pies, I would like to do a silhouette of Ben stuck into one of his pies and a silhouette of me stuck into one of my pies for our "cake" toppers.
